To continue my knowledge about the topic for my research, I sat down in front of my laptop and do the research. Then I found this news article K-to-12 summit threshes out new education strategies from MANILA TIMES. In this article written by Neil Alcober, he wrote that the first summit concerning about the k to 12 program was held in the University of Makati (UMak) for the purpose of discussing the issues and evaluating concern about the program.
Armin Luisitro, Education Secretary, discussed the overview of k to 12 in the country’s education system. He also said that the purpose of the summit is to invite the leaders and educators of private and public school to discuss the program to them. One of the discussions tackled in the summit is that how k to 12 will go further applying the most convenient methods and approaches of teaching.
Luisitro reasoned for the summit “Definitely, this is our first Summit. We have invited local universities and colleges, as well as state universities and colleges, in this event because we want them also to be part of the launching and planning of the program’s transition. Although the nationwide implementation of Senior High School [SHS] is in 2016, this year, however, is the transition year of K to 12. They still have an ample time to prepare for this before the full implementation.”
He also pointed out “What we are also discussing here is to find an answer on how can we easily get into the actual transition. This can be problematic if we will not plan and provide the necessary preparation for this program. That’s why they still have three or four years to have the best preparation before the 2016.”
Luisito and other members of the education sector choose UMak as the host of the summit by the reason that the university has the largest number of enrollees of the program. Students more than 5,000 are enrolled in UMak. And the other reason is that the design of the program of UMak is very innovative and their transition of grade 10 and 11 signifies positive outcomes.
Tomas Lopez, president of UMak and Association of Local Colleges and Universities, said that the purpose of summit is to understand the rationale, objectives, mechanics and others of the program and also to discuss some issues and challenges regarding the new program. He also said that the summit’s objective is the discussion of important strategies and measures for policy recommendation to legislative and executive bodies like the DepEd, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority and Commission on Higher Education, geared for a smooth, full implementation of the K-12 program.
The message of this news article is that the people responsible to the program are making move to make this program to have a positive outcome. They are being meticulous to issues occurring and to issues that they think will probable arise soon. So, they are developing this program to become successful.
I think, those people in charge are doing a great job and want to secure the success of the program. They do not wait to the problems arise but they are preparing for possible problems and think for possible solution to the problems. I think the summit will be a big help to find problems and make a solution to it, give suggestion and more.
