SUMMARY
This paper attempted to identify or determine the effects of having k to 12 implemented in the Philippines.

The research design used in this study is a descriptive research method wherein data from online articles, surveys and interviews were used to answer the research question posed. The research findings are the following:

3.     Additional problem by the parents to spend money for their children.
4.     Government should increase funds to enable to produce more classrooms, books and better facilities to accommodate number of students
5.     Government should prepare what is needed before they implement the program, not prepare while implementing the program.

RECOMMENDATIONS

After drawing the conclusions of the study, the research hereby make the following suggestions/recommendations:

2.     There should be a research upon the progress of the program.
3.     When there are graduates from the program, a research shall conduct the effectiveness of the k to 12 program.

HW9:Teachers, are you ready??

From the website of Department of Education (DepEd) they posted an article last February 13, 2012 entitled as DepEd prepares teachers for K to 12. In this article, DepEd ensures that before the implementation of the program that teachers are ready for the program. The DepEd conducted the Test of English Proficiency for Teachers (TEPT) and Process Skills Test (PST) in Science and Mathematics to all public teachers of Grades 1 and 2 nationwide. Those tests are part of DepEd’s assessment whether the teachers of public school have the capability to teach the new curriculum of the k to 12 program.

The result will be the basis on what kind of training was introduced last summer to prepare the teachers. Teachers from NCR, CaLaVaRZon, MIMAROPA, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12, CARAGA, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Central Luzaon, CAR and ARMM took the TEPT and PST test.

The DepEd did the right thing that they should assess their teachers before they implement the k to 12 program. And they gave training to prepare the teacher for the program. This is a good idea by the DepEd because it will ensure that their teachers is ready or not for the program. Teachers are ready for the program, do the students are ready for the program?

HW8: Students and Teachers are benefited

From Department of Education (DepEd) they posted an article last December 5, 2012 entitled as Math and Science teachers get 3-step salary increase . DepEd implemented guidelines for the grant of 3-step salary increase for teachers of Science and/or Mathematics in public schools.

“Teachers have specialization in Science and/or Mathematics will be given additional pay 3-step higher than the teachers’ assigned grade”. This is from the Joint Resolution No. 4 of the Senate and House of Representatives issued by the Department of Budget and Management. A grant of a 3-step salary increase will be recognized as incentive to teachers who are specialized in Science and/or Mathematics trusting to give focus to teach these subjects in the basic education.

Luistro said that the Science and Mathematics are important tools of industrialization which has a possibility to improve global competitiveness of the country.

Teachers I, II, and III in public schools who are specialized in teaching Science and Mathematics are covered by the grant. The grant was started last January 2011 and the succeeding grants are operative every January of the year.

Based on DepEd Order 79 series of 2002, the school head shall determine qualified teachers based on the review of submitted documents which are:

· Approved appointment
· Transcript of records
· Certificates of training completed in Science and Math
· Individual teachers program indicating daily subject load for the last three school years
· Performance rating for the last three years, and
· Updated service records.

Those who qualified to the criteria will be granted of the 3-step salary increase. And also, teacher must be teaching Science and Mathematics for three years to be granted by this grant.

Another step having a good quality of education is that the teacher specialized in subject. I think this will open the minds of to teacher that they should specialize the subject in order to have a increase salary. I realized it benefited both teachers and students. Teachers will have increase salary and also obtain clear knowledge in the subject. And Students will understand the subject because their teacher will provide discussion that they will understand.

HW7: A good start will result to a better finished

According to the article by the Department of Education (DepEd) entitled DepEd releases criteria in hiring kinder teachers posted last November 19, 2012 the DepEd requires qualifications in hiring and deployment of kindergarten teachers

QUALIFICATIONS

DepEd put up a standard on hiring kindergarten teachers. In the DepEd Order 81, s. 2012 you will find the guidelines on hiring and deployment of kindergarten teachers. Under paragraph two, it stated the qualification of kindergarten teacher-applicants, that applicants must be a degree holder at any of the following:

· Bachelor in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
· Bachelor of Science Preschool Education
· Bachelor of Science (BS) in Family Life and Child Development
· Bachelor in Elementary Education with specialization in Preschool or Early Childhood Education
· Bachelor in Elementary Education major in Teaching Early grades.
· Bachelor in Secondary Education which has an additional diploma in ECE and also who take major related courses to at least 18 units in ECE/Child Development including those in Day Care centers.
· Also teacher applicants must passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and/or Professional Board Examination for Teacher (PBET) and must not be 46 years old and above.

DEPLOYMENT

In deployment of kindergarten teachers, teaching experience in kinder/preschool both in public and private schools shall be considered and shall follow specific:

· The teacher I plantilla position for kindergarten shall be deployed in public elementary schools where there are existing kindergarten classes with a large population of five-year old children.

· The teacher to be deployed must be in the list of the Division’s Registry of Qualified Applicants.

· A kindergarten teacher shall handle two classes per day; one in the morning and on in the afternoon. Each class shall have at least twenty five children who are five years old for a period of at least three hours per session.

· In a school where there is only one kindergarten class, teacher shall handle another class in a nearby school

· Kindergarten teacher shall be entitled to receive the same benefits and other continuing professional development.

Luistro said that we must follow the quality standards in preparing our young learners, which is also teachers must qualify the required standards in competence and qualification.

In this article, we see another progress of k to 12 program which is to have quality teachers in kindergarten. They put up standards in hiring kindergarten teachers. If these standards will be followed right and quality education will be received by the students.

From what I see it is a good idea that they put up standards in hiring kindergarten teachers because those qualified teachers will provide the right education for the students in the kindergarten and also a quality education. Those teachers qualified are specialized to their job. Therefore, they know what to do in teaching and what not to do.

And also, I see that they want a good quality to the beginning of the learning progress of children. I hope that the students, who have a good quality of education in their education, will be carried in the proceeding years of their education.
