disadvantages of K to12?

Some filipino disagrees to the "k-to-12" program. Some doesn't want this program to be implemented in the country. May be the view point of this people is the negative side that's way the don't agree to this program. And I wonder what are their reason why they don't want this program to be implemented. And I go to my laptop then surf the net. I found many articles, but one caught my attention.

From the OMMSTER website, I found this article K+12 Education System: Not A Good Idea, For Now by Sherica Fabienne Ocbanbia. The writer is obviously disapproved the k to 12 education system. She said that the k to 12 would be a bad idea in our country as of today. In the article she explained her reasons why k to 12 is a bad idea to our country. She pointed out 5 reasons why it is a bad idea, those are:

· Poverty
· Teacher’s Training and Interest
· Student’s Interest To Study
· Private Schools Will Benefit…On the Business Side
· F for Facilities

First in Poverty, she exaggerated the word “this” in her statement “THIS is the most glaring issue here and THIS is the most popular reason”. Most Filipinos are having a financial difficulty, especially on their budget on their primary needs for their own family. Some parents or guardians work hard just to send their kids to school and to have a quality education because quality education is hard to obtain for young member of the family.

Teacher’s training and interest, teachers today are complaining for a low rate salary. K to 12 will increase their task or work. If this happens there would be a probability that teacher would seek for another job than to do a lot of work with a low paying job.
Student’s Interest to study, we are introduced with the new technology today and most children are addicted to computer games and stuff. Cellphones, music player, laptop and other gadgets will lead students more interested in it than to study. The writer said “Some students even don’t make their assignments on their own, and they “bully” or “pay” the smartest in their class by letting them do it. Some even cram to the max level days before the deadline of submission.” And she also observed that some students find learning disinteresting for the reason they don’t like the subject or the teacher. So, students tend not to listen but they do other things.

Private Schools Will Benefit…On the Business Side, schools today increases their tuition fees, especially the miscellaneous fees. Under miscellaneous fees some fees added which are not advisable are included.

Lastly F for Facilities, she graded our educational facilities as F because some schools today especially the public schools have really poor quality in their facilities.

There are a lot of problems in the Philippine education that we should care about for long term solutions. She wants to point out that we should restore the quality of education before we implement the k to 12 system.

Ms. Ocbanbia was right about her blog. But her point of view was the negative side of implementing the k to 12. I think that additional funds are needed for the solution to all of the reason why it is a bad idea, except for the “Student’s Interest to Study”. This “Student’s Interest to Study” is a parental concern. Parents should talk to their children on motivating them to study and others.

I conclude, in order that the k to 12 would be ready in the Philippines. Government should give additional funds regarding to Philippine education to help schools to have better services and facilities. And Parents should be always there for their children if their children need them.

  5. I believe that the government should have thought about the public schools. I actually think that public schools in America, or everywhere else for that matter, have better education than our private schools here in the Philippines. There will come a time when K-12 wont cause so many problems but now is not the time. The Philippine Government should allocate a bigger budget for all the public schools in the Philippines! =)

  6. Most of the people are being fond of the negative side... what about the positive side? Whatever it is.. we Filipinos, have to look forward regarding about it. We have to face such circumstances, though..

  7. Albeit the negative things it brings, K-12 is actually pretty great. I mean, how would the other nations progress as they are today if not for their educational system? The problem lies within ourselves and the Department of Education and the Executive Office of the Philippines. We aren't financially and systematically ready. Sure, one of the positive effects it brings is that when someone graduates senior high, they are able to work afterwards, even without a college degree. But we have survived so many years of people not going to college and still having a job. Next point is, if it's supposed to be "beneficial" for the poor, why are the schools that are K-12 ready mostly expensive schools? Most public schools aren't even ready! So, what's up, government?

Masyadong nagmamadali eh. Palibasa gusto may nai-contribute siya at nakalagay sa mga librong Araling Panlipunan. lolol

  8. k to 12 also is a good program. Just are government who did not thought about the right time. Ok its true that education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world, but everything created by God has its own limits and factors.

Maybe in my own opinion.. we should wait and our government should fond lot of bounty for k to 12...

    2. In what way/s do you think that K-12 program could help the less fortunate people? That this program will add two more years in our basic education. Opportunity? Ohw come on.........Are you blind? Many students out there stop studying because of the additional two more years that their parents cannot afford anymore to send them to school.......Please be practical.thank you

  10. Those things should've been on the mind of DEPED Sec. Armin Luistro and PNOY on the 1st place. With so many Filipinos on the streets begging for food and money just to eat a measly 3 times a day, increasing the the no. of years in school would be very difficult for them to get quality education. How can they afford k to 12 program in the philippines? Yes, conditional cash transfer program would be a solution but giving them jobs would be the best solution to their problem.

  11. If we just know what will happen in the future in those students that are studying hard .Where will they go? Other countries ? Right? Because here in the country is lack of job oppurtunities .Just commenting

  12. I know Government wants to have a good economy. so I think the Governments don't want us handed to bad results with the K-12 Program. But actually financially its insufficient. Dun nga lang. lol

  13. Why they dont removed some unnecessary subject and add the necessary one instead of adding years.. children in kindergarten is not easy to please parent is needed beside them while learning, what if some other parent are working mom in order to give the needs of their children, ot is a big factor specially in single parent. One more thing is why their are not focusing first on giving a job to those jobless parents so they can able to support their children on another 2 years. And why they not support the salary increase, its just always the demand or need has an unstopable increase..

  16. Nice post! Thanks for sharing this info. K-12 education is good but it lacks support from the government. Teachers should receive a high increase in their salary. Schools should have good facilities so that teachers will be able to effectively teach students particularly in the STEM strand; otherwise, the additional 2 years of education will just be a burden to parents. By the way, I found some updates on k-12 curriculum on this site:
    https://www.ciit.edu.ph/k-12-curriculum-in-the-philippines/

I also learned some other disadvantages from this post:
